Sea Change

The sea has become the sky
And overwhelms the land.
Waves of inundation pour from above,
Rising with inexorable rivers
To cover our roads
And lap at our front doors.
The Atlantic would make of it all
Another Atlantis.
Cling as we may to the higher ground
And try to tame
Our Winter storms with names
As we’d humanise a hurricane,
The welter of distress remains
And these days, always comes again.
