Old Lady, Shopping

I watched you today
With a trolley, quite alone,
Browsing single tins of things;
Small and elderly,
Wearing a wedding ring.
After years of meals
For all the family –
At first, excitedly,
Just for two,
And afterwards, now,
Just for you –
Is it hard to remember
The battalions of teas
And all their Sunday dinners
Down the years?
The ones you made for everyone,
When everyone’s home was you?
